Deployment Project # 61...Painted Curtains

This was a FUN project to take on.

I am currently giving my kitchen a makeover.

After months of searching for the perfect shade of beige for my walls, I finally found it at Benjamin Moore. It's called "Brandon Beige"

Photobucket

I repainted my walls, and saw THESE curtains over at The Nesting Place.

I didn't want to hunt and hunt for striped fabric that matched perfectly AND was in my budget. ( I did find one fabric with stripes, but it was over $25 a yard, and I needed 5 yards of it).
Photobucket

So, I went to my local Target and bought 5 solid white curtains, and spent about $45. You will see why I needed 5 panels in just a bit.
Photobucket

I measured each stripe to be 8 inches wide and taped it off with painter's tape.

Then I used the exact same paint that I used on my walls and filled in every other stripe.
Photobucket

Of course, for 2 days I had a curtain taking up my entire floor space in my kitchen....
Photobucket

I wanted to hang my curtains higher than 84" but the panels only come in 84", so I bought a 5th one and used it to make each curtain a little longer, and sewed on the extra fabric to the bottom of my painted curtains.

See, you can't even tell, can you?!?

I never thought I would like drapes in my kitchen, but I am LOVING how they look!!

So, here is what they looked like BEFORE....with valances and pale beige walls...

And here they are AFTER...with the Brandon Beige on the wall and the new curtains!

I LOVE my painted curtains!!!!!!

More to come on the kitchen reveal...still waiting on a few finishing touches....so stay tuned!

You would never know they were painted. Beautiful job. Hows the texture of them with the dried paint? Are they stiff? Love the DIY solution.

oh goodness, those look so awesome! they remind me of michelle's entryway at "three men and a lady". i have seen where some people, if they need plain white drapery panels will buy the white twin flat sheet's at walmart. i think they are around $5 each for the flat sheet and they are around 90 inches long. i am pretty sure they come in a variety of colors, too, if you need any in any other rooms.

What a neat idea! Sure beats going out and buying striped curtains [which would cost to much vs painting them]. Looks great! :)

So glad you posted this b/c I have been searching high and low for fabric like the nester's so I can have pretty striped curtains too. These look fabulous!

Love it!! I've seen something similar but she used fabric and fusible web, but it seems rather time consuming and a lot of cutting perfectly straight lines. Your version is FABULOUS and easy!! Does the paint stiffen the fabric??

Great job. I love this idea and I have some already that I am going to paint. Yah!

Beautiful! How's the texture on the fabric? Can you tell it's painted if you look up close in person? Great job!

awesome! I have been contemplating going the same route and you have inspired me!!

I have read that if you will add a fabric medium (in a craft store with the other small paints-you may need several? but unsure) to the paint (and I am guessing you can add to all paints?) it will help the paint go on fabric easier and not stiff. Also, I believe its washable.

They look great!!!!

I have coveted the Nester's curtains...what a great solution! I always wondered what painting fabric would feel like. Do you think they're washable? Is the fabric stiff?

These look amazing! I started doing the exact same thing last week, but only got one panel painted. I removed the tape pretty much immediately after I got the stripes on, only to notice there were places that needed a second coat. Did you put one than one coat on yours?
Seeing how great yours look up, I am eager to get mine finished.

Your space looks fabulous with the painted curtains! I love the tone-on-tone and that beige you chose is so pretty and easy on the eyes. I've painted curtains before too and love how you can get the perfect shade for your room by doing this.

they look great. I am in the middle of making mine with stripes. Started with drop cloths and it's not going well . . maybe I should hit target. Did they take a long time to paint? Two coats???

are these fabulous drapes stiff at all??
I love the color too!!

Did you have trouble with the paint bleeding onto the white sections?

Just saw this on Pinterest. I saw white tablecloths for $7 bucks apiece at Sam's Club which are 104" already. No sewing to achieve your look. Thanks for your inspiration.
