Decorating Dilemma....shades or drapes?

I'm in a decorating dilemma!

Recently, I had my living room painted....and now my current window treatments don't go with the new wall color....

Sooo, I am going to make some new ones....

Check out my set of 4 windows on my back wall....

Excuse the darkness of the picture...obviously didn't take these pictures at the right time of day

The question is this....

Do I make new roman shades or drapes for these windows???????

I would make roman shades in a different fabric to look just like the ones you see.....or go a little more formal and hang drapes?????

Thoughts and opinions????

Thanks in advance for the help!

Guest Bathroom Makeover....Deployment Project #5

Recently, I gave my guest bath a little makeover.

I am trying to do away with patterns and multiple colors in my house...going for a more simple, clean, fresh look.

So, I decided it was time I got my hands on my guest bath....

Here it was before....

...and here is the after...

(The shower curtain was $12 at Target. I cut off the bottom, sewed on some burlap and a chocolate colored ribbon to match)

I put up the chair rail and shadow boxes myself. The shadow boxes are pre-made and were purchased at Lowe's. This was VERY easy to do!!!

A plain $3 towel from Wal Mart.... I monogrammed it and sewed on chocolate ribbon on the bottom.
The color is Eddie Bauer's "Limestone" purchased at Lowe's.

I am learning that LESS is better when it comes to home decor....even in a bathroom....

What do you think??

RIP Little Buddy

Photobucket

Tucker
12/28/00 - 6/22/10

Sadly, we lost our sweet dachshund this week.

My husband and I agree we will never make fun of an old woman and her lap dog ever again....  :-)

Tucker started a little over a week ago acting very funny...whining at times and not eating.  After 3 vet visits, and no diagnosis, Tucker continued to get worse...still not eating, barely moving and obviously in extreme pain.

After seeing a specialist we were told Tucker had a genetic disease common in dachshunds called intervertebral disc disease (IVDD). Discs had ruptured in his back, releasing a gel like substance that hardens and can cause paralysis.  Because of his age (he's almost 10) chances of recovering from surgery and being rehabilitated were not in his favor.....so we were forced to make the decision to let him go.

One of the hardest decisions we have had to make.

So, needless to say, our hearts are broken over the loss of our sweet Tucker.

Obviously, he was a dog, but to us he was more than that.  He was a person trapped in a weiner dog's body.  Smart and sweet, loving us unconditionally no matter what.

Everyone that ever met Tucker loved him, whether they were a dog fan or not. There was just something about him that made you laugh and want to snuggle with him.

We got him 2 years before we had our first child...he was there when we brought our oldest home from the hospital and followed her around everywhere. If she cried, he ran to her room and stood by her crib, concerned about her.  Sometimes we wondered if he thought she was HIS baby instead of ours.

Three years later he watched us bring another child home, and loved her as much as the first baby.

Our kids loved this little guy....and he loved them.....even giving them kisses when they pulled his tail or pinched his ear.....

It's sad to think how you get a pet knowing they will not live as long as we do....and that, at some point, you have to say goodbye before you are ready....

But the time we had with Tucker is worth every tear.  We will talk about him for the rest of our lives and the fun memories we were able to make with him....and I know he's happy he's not suffering anymore. I know his time on earth was good. He was loved deeply, and had a better life than some children do.....

It's hard to say good bye...but so thankful for our time with him.

Rest In Peace, sweet Tuck-Tuck!!!

Here are some pictures I dug up of Tuck over the years....

$1 Goodwill Shelf Transformation....Deployment Project #4

I found this shelf at my local Goodwill recently....it was $1.50...marked down on clearance for $1....

SOLD!

It's just your typical partical board shelf...not sure what this belonged to...possibly it once sat on a desk...or was a headboard to a twin bed???

Who knows, but for $1 I decided to bring it home and give it a little TLC.

Photobucket

As you can see, there was a big front panel on this shelf.

I took the panel off and measured the inside of the shelf.

I went by Lowe's and bought a board for $2.80 to go inside to form another shelf, came home and inserted the shelf.

I painted it all with 2 coats of semi-gloss paint I already had.

After spending a total of $3.80, I now have a great shelf for storing my sewing supplies!!

A Sneaky Peeky at my new wall color!!!!

Out with the old, and in with the new!!!

My gold walls are gone!

Yay!

Now.....I'm left to redecorate everything and rehang all my photos....

Soooo, I can't show it all to you, but I CAN show you my mantel....

Photobucket

This was taken as a quick snapshot this afternoon...it wasn't staged....that's why you see the  container of sample paint....but you get to see the new color!!!

I've already had questions about the color from my sample post....

It's called Filoli Carriage House by Valspar (at Lowe's).

It's a really neat color...sage-y green in some light....tan at other times....gray-ish at other times...
Do you like it????

It's growing on me!

Stay tuned for more....

Paint Color..HELP Me Pick!!!

QUICK!!!!!!

Help me pick a paint color!

After years of having  gold/yellowish walls, I am having them painted this week!!! YAY!!!!!

I'm really excited about this....I've had these wheat colored walls for almost 10 years, and I am so ready for change!!!!

Problem is, I can't decide on a color!

I know I don't want just the typical beige color, but I also don't want to go too drastic with a color since this will be the main color people see when they walk in my house.

Here is a shot of my living room....very open...and GOLD.....ugh! (I've already started taking things off the walls, hence the empty mantel)

Photobucket

Photobucket
(See the paint swatches on the wall???)

I have decided I want a khaki color with a sage undertone. This way, it will look khaki in some light, sage in others....

Sooooo, I have narrowed it down to these 3 pain colors. They are all close in color, but look different on the wall.

But, which one??? I NEED your comments and opinions!

Paint color 1, 2 or 3?!?!?

HELP!!!!!

Beachin' It...a little

We had a few fun days at the beach this past week....

My BFF (we've been best friends since we were 10) and her family vacationed in Hilton Head, SC this past week, and we were fortunate to join them for 3 days!!!

Usually, our families vacation together every summer....Click HERE and HERE to see past vacations....

But this year, we were unable to plan a true vacation due to baseball schedules and deployments....so she planned a trip with her family, and the girls and I joined in for a few days!

3 days on the beach was enough to WEAR US OUT!!!  The sun just zaps the energy out of you for days!

Here are some fun shots of our short time on the beach...
