A Tween Bedroom Makeover....

I've been working on and off for a while on my 9 year old daughter's room.

She came to me one day and said she was tired of pink walls...that she was too old for pale pink walls.  Of course, I didn't think so.....are we ever too old for PINK??!?!? ;(

So, slowly, I brought myself around to the fact that she IS growing up, and maybe having pale pink walls is not the "coolest" thing to have.....

.....Sigh.....

I mean, what was wrong with this room?!?...

This was her room before...yes, it's pale pink, but oh so cute. I really hated to change it.

So, I started searching around for ideas that we both could agree on.

That's when I came across Emily Clark's Blog...and saw this picture pinned on Pinterest...

A POLKA DOTTED WALL!!!!!

Now, we're talking. I loved it. My 9 year old loved it. Perfect! SO I went to work, and used the wall as my inspiration.

Then my daughter came to me and said she wanted this bedding for her room..

She's really into peace signs...and I'm a sucker for polka dots...AND this would totally help pull off the polka dotted wall I had planned.

Another Win-Win situation for us both.

SO, I went to work...slowly but surely...because by this time, my morning sickness from my third pregnancy had kicked in and the thought of doing anything but laying on the couch trying to keep food down, was out of the question.

Then the morning sickness never went away....and the slow process on the room got even slower.....

So, I slowly worked on her room as I could....

And here I am....9 months pregnant...and am JUST at a point where I can say her room is finished. There are a few things I still want to do in here, but now I am just too big and miserable to do it. Soooo, without further hesitation, here is my updated daughter's room...fit for a peace sign lovin', pale pink hatin' 9 year old girl.....

You can read more about the cute lampshade HERE

Here are a few more shots of the room....doesn't it look like a FUN room?!?

(Window seat with storage for toys)

($4 Goodwill chair. Spray painted and recovered)

SO, there you have it. A non-pink "cool" tween room for a 9 year old...and I was even still able to keep a little pink in it without her getting upset!

Even though there are a few things left to do in here (make a bed skirt and throw pillows for the bed) I don't see me getting them done before this baby gets here. Trying to get a nursery ready and redo this room has exhausted me. I think I will wait on the bed skirt and throw pillows!!!

Details....

Bedding: Potter Barn Teen
Wall Dots : Wall-pops.com
Bulletin Board : Lowe's (had it cut to a 4x4ft piece....painted the squares on myself
Chair : Goodwill...$4...spray painted it and recovered the seat with scrap fabric I already had

No new furniture was bought for her room..we simply moved what we already had around...she got some of the guest room furniture, and an old antique desk that was in another part of the house.

I"ll be back soon to show you my nursery. I have it completed, but am waiting on the cushions to the glider I had recovered...they upholsterer is taking FOREVER! UGH!

Have a great weekend!

Fancy Lampshade Makeover!

Recently, I was searching Pinterest....which I will admit, that I am addicted to that fabulous site.  It has MILLIONS of wonderful ideas on it!

Looking through the DIY section, I came across this Lamp Redo idea over at DIY Showcase
and I knew I had to try it on a lamp I had sitting in my 9 year old daughter's room.

This lamp to be exact.

So, I just followed the simple instructions on the website and ended up with this...

It was easy, and didn't take a long time to complete! it looks cute sitting on her little study desk, doesn't it? I bought the lamp at Goodwill last year for a few dollars and spray painted it, added the shade...and I have a brand new lamp!

I've been working on my 9 year old's room...actually for about 6 months now on and off. I'll be ready to show the finished room to you in the next few days, so please check back!

Happy Friday, everyone!

Deployment Project # 99 - Before & After Home Tour!!!!

Deployment Project # 99
Before & After HOME TOUR!

I cannot believe I have made it to project #99!!! When I first started this journey, I set my goal at 100 because I knew it would keep my mind occupied...thinking more about home projects than how much I missed my husband being gone.  Little did I know, I would receive so many emails with words of encouragement and support from all of you blog readers....not only did the projects keep me going, but all of YOU have kept me going. Whether it's been a word of encouragement or support for our family, or just becoming a follower of this blog....I can't thank you enough for appreciating the blood, sweat and tears that has gone into this deployment. It's been a LONG 14 months for our family, and I am so glad this chapter is about to close, and another one will open.

But, the good news is. I am not done with my projects. My mind is already racing with MORE ideas....guess I will have to call them my "post" deployment projects...

So, here we are at my BEFORE & AFTER home tour....the BEFORE pics are all how the house looked when the hubby left for his deployment...and the AFTER pics are all how they look now. Think he will be surprised when he comes home?!?!?!

Deployment Project #98 - Craft Reveal....sort of...

Deployment Project #98
Craft Room Reveal...sort of...

Well, here I am with just a few days left before the hubs comes home from his 14 month long deployment. My nerves are already on edge and the anxiety is about to hit the roof.   For 14 months I have been working diligently on my house trying to get it in order and just the way I want it.  Let's face it, you'll never have your house EXACTLY the way you want it. There will ALWAYS be things you want to add/take away....even though I have worked hard on my house this past year and am pleased with the results, I still don't feel like it's done. BUT, the good news is, now I can start on my POST-deployment projects, right?!?!? :-)

So, here we are on my very last room to show to you.

My craft room.

I am not 100% done in here, but 90% of it is complete. A few tweaks here and there will get it just like I want it...... I hope.

Let's take a look at it BEFORE...

Then I hung up photos on the wall... I originally was going to do a blog post on how to do this, but I lost my before pics....guess it would be to my advantage to learn how to be organized ((sigh))...

I haven't had a chance to blog about this fun alternative bulletin board. I took an old picture frame. Covered a piece of cardboard in fabric and put it in the frame. Now I can use it as a place to pin up my sewing patterns!!

So, here is my sewing/craft/monogramming room. My kids even have a table in here so they can color/draw alongside me!!!
