Some Quick, Easy-Peasy Lamp Shades

I took a break from my big bookshelf project and did a few simple, easy, and fast crafts with some lamp shades.

I ran into my local Goodwill store the other day and found a cute lamp stand for $3....(forgot to take a before pic)

SCORE!

At Target, I found a lamp shade covered in burlap for $6.

SCORE!

Brought both home, spray painted the lamp stand in my favorite ORB spray paint, hot glued some trim around the top and bottom, and stencilled a cute design onto the shade with craft paint.

In Faith's room, I bought another $6 solid white shade from Tar-jay...gotta love Target...

Once again, I hot glued some ric rac  and trim around it....

Bought another lamp base at Goodwill for $2, spray painted it pink to match....

and here it is...

It's amazing how a simple white lamp shade can make something so cute!

It looks so cute next to her bed....

Lastly, and the most simple of my lamp shades is this one...

Photobucket

This lamp was recently spray painted in ORB with just a plain cream colored shade....

....but I thought it needed something more.....

So I simply tied a ribbon around the shade to add a little "umph" to it...

I think it really changes the look, don't you??

More No Sew Curtains

The other day I showed you my no sew roman shades HERE in my daughter's room...

I made curtains for my kitchen a few months ago, but am just getting around to telling you about them.....

I repainted my kitchen back in February, but haven't had a chance to blog about it because I'm not happy with the color.  I have painted it 3 times now, and am still not happy with the color....

So, I can't show you the entire kitchen until I am happy with it...which requires a 4th coat of paint....ugh....

But, until then, here are my new no-sew curtains I currently have in the kitchen...waiting on the perfect paint color to go with them....

Photobucket

All I did was measure my window across... I believe it was about 39" wide.

Then I bought 2 yards of fabric, and cut it in half....drapery fabric comes in about a 50" width (I believe) so by cutting it I had 2 pieces that measured 36" x 50"

Next, I folded the edges over once and hot glued them down...you can also use an iron and fabric tape...but hot gluing is much faster...

For the trim, I just hot glued it on the bottom as well....

Depending on how long you want your treatments you can fold the fabric in half, or part of the way down, or not at all. I folded mine in half. This way, I did not have to line them...saving me time and money!

**Also, if you hang them ABOVE your window, you won't need to line them because the sun won't be coming through them** (and they make your windows appear longer)

Photobucket

Finally, I used my fabric tacks to tack the curtians up on the wall....folding the fabric to my liking....

There are many different ways you can hang your treatments, but I chose to hang mine like you see...but you can play around with diffferent ways to see what you like (that's the good thing about not having to mount any hardware for these...they are interchangable if you get tired of the current style)
Photobucket

See my plain beige walls????.....now you see why I need to repaint for a 4th time...
Photobucket

Instead of fabric tacks, you can buy some decorative hardware or tie-backs, or even a pretty doorknob to hang it with....but I wanted something simple and chose to go with just the fabric tacks...
Photobucket

So there you have it.

no sew kitchen curtains.

Easy-Peasy.

...and cheap....

Happy Thursday!

Duck. Duck, EGGS!!!

A few months ago we found an alligator swimming in our pond out back...EEEEK!!!
Photobucket
Next, we discovered a deer eating my plants in my front yard....

Then, we discovered a precious little bunny in our backyard....

Photobucket

Today, we found a duck nest filled with 15 eggs....

A few minutes later, Mama Duck came to lay on her eggs....

We are just one horse short of a farm around here at my city house....

If I wake up in the morning and see a sheep or cow walking around, I won't be the least bit surprised.....

HAPPY TUESDAY!!!!

No Sew Roman Shades...

I have been working on Brooke's new BIG GIRL room, and have so many ideas in my head I want to do in there...so it's a long way from finished. I can't wait to show you pics of the finished room...soon, hopefully!

One of the first things I wanted to do was figure out how to make window treatments for the bay window in her room.  Drapes were out of the question....if you know my 3 year old, you know that drapes would be an open invitation to use them as a swinging vine....so no drapes.

And no window treatments mounted on boards because there's not enough wall space with bay windows to put up the boards....

That's when I came across my hero, Sarah's, blog about how to make "no sew" roman shades. Click HERE to read all about how she did hers.

Before, I just had this one window treatment, because I didn't know what else to do....
Photobucket

That was before I found Sarah's blog, and she saved my life showed me how to make the roman shades.

I won't go into tons of details since you can read them on her blog....

But, all you need to do is measure the inside of your windows, cut the fabric about 3/4in. larger than the window all the way around.  Grab your fabric glue tape, fold the fabric and iron. It's extremly simple! Just rememebr to make a pocket at the top for the rod you will slip through it in the end.

Photobucket

Simply fold over and iron with the fabric tape..or in my case, I ended up using some hot glue...
Photobucket

I also cut ribbon, about 2 inches long...glued them together like you see...and then glued them on the insides of the shades.  These are your "hooks" for hanging the shades.

**note** I lined my shades, but you don't have to.
Photobucket

At the top inside of each window I screwed in 2 small cup hooks on each side. You can get these at any craft store. (sorry, I don't have a pictures of it)
Photobucket

I bought some inexpensive tension rods from Lowe's (the ones that have springs, not the ones you mount...although you can get either).....

I inserted the rods in the top pockets and hung them in the window! EASY-PEASY!
Once you have the tension rod mounted, you can play with the hooks on the inside to hang them as long or short as you like them.....and you can create as many "folds" as you want....
Photobucket

Here's the finished window!

Photobucket

Now this space looks totally different because I just had shelves built in....more pics on that later...

Can't wait to show you more!

a weekend in the ATL....

We had a great weekend this past week!

We met my best friend, Carolina (Care-o-leena) and her family there! For those of you who don't know about my best friend, you can read about her HERE and HERE.

With Ryan having to do so much training for his deployment, he won't have time for a summer vacation, so we planned a quick 3 day weekend trip to Atlanta.

We had a blast, and the time went by fast!!! Any time spent with the BFF and the hubby ALWAYS goes by fast.

On Saturday we headed to a Braves game...

Photobucket

As a child, I was THE biggest Braves fan....I could tell you the entire 1983 Braves line-up....

My Favorite player??

Well, Dale Murphy, of course!!!!

Photobucket

(...and you are asking, "Who the heck is Dale Murphy??")

What makes it so much fun, is that our kids are friends! Carolina and I grew up together, and it's just surreal to watch OUR chidren play together as well as we did as kids!

Photobucket

Photobucket

The game was fun, even though the Braves got beat...BAD! We were fortunate to have a suite for the game that had a tv in it, so when the kids got bored they watched tv while the grown ups enjoyed the game!

Here's a shot of the Price family in left field......and I KNOW you are laughing at my hubby's Braves jersey...it was his in high school. He dug it up while we were at my in-laws and insisted on wearing it to the game. I thought he was kidding.....

But obviously not....(gotta love him)
Photobucket

Caro and me....BFF for 24 years and counting...

Photobucket

I also got to see Baby Sofie for the first time... this is Carolina's youngest baby...she was 9 months pregnant when I saw her last ( we live 9 hours away from eachother), and Sofie is now 6 months old...

Here we are 6 months ago....
Photobucket

...and here is Baby Sofie....
Photobucket
Boy, was she a cutie!!!

And the BEST baby I think I have ever been around....rarely cried..always happy...

I sure hope my third baby is like that....one day!

Here is Caro with Sweet Sofie!

Photobucket

On Sunday, we went to Stone Mountain, GA....

a beautiful place and lots of fun for the kids...

Photobucket

Look at that HUGE stome mountain....

(Wonder if THAT'S why they call it Stone Mountain, GA?!?!? hmmm.....)

And you can ride a sky lift all the way up to the top.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Here are the kids at the top of the mountain...they thought they were on the moon!
Photobucket

There was so much to do there...we spent the entire day there...

The kids had fun, but the little one started giving me looks like this half way through the day...

Photobucket

which turned into this 5 minutes later!
Photobucket

We had so much fun and can't wait to get together with our friends again!!!

We also got to visit Ryan's cousin who had a baby a few weeks ago. Sweet Baby James was a cutie....look at me holding him....I look good with 3 little ones, don't I ?!? (Tell my husband that!)

Photobucket

And no trip would be complete without a visit to the American Doll Store and  Bistro in Atlanta.
For those who are not familiar with AG dolls...this is a doll store with a restaurant attached to it.  You can shop in the store for your doll...they even have a hair salon in the store to fix up their hair!! Every little girl needs to experience the American Girl Doll store....I think I was more excited than Faith!  I'm planning on making the 5 hr trip back to Atlanta this summer just to go back to the AG store!!!  (just have to save up some more $$ first...these AG Doll clothes are as expensive as my OWN clothes! sheesh!)

Photobucket

Faith's doll, Hailey, got a new outfit and Faith dressed her right away when we sat down at the bistro.
Photobucket

Faith is getting her doll dressed in her new clothes!
Photobucket

They give the dolls their own high chair with a muffin fro lunch! How cute is that!?!?
Photobucket

Look at my happy 7 year old!!! She was on Cloud 9!
Photobucket

And Brooke had fun too...she doesn't have an AG doll, but she didn't care as long as she had some ice cream!

'Til next time....
