Deployment Project # 81 - A Refinished Dresser

Deployment Project # 81
A New-Old Dresser

Take a look at this 1970's dresser.

It was mine as a child, and for the longest time has been sitting in a closet because I was too embarrassed to display it in any room.

Not anymore.

My husband even told me we needed to donate this to Goodwill. Can you believe that?!?
Photobucket

This totally looks like it came out of the home of the Brady Bunch!

Photobucket

A while back I showed you how I painted my corner hutch (click HERE to see)

I used the same technique with this dresser since they are both in the same room.

Photobucket

I spray painted the knobs with ORB (oil rubbed bronze) spray paint, and used the glaze to distress it.

And to think I kept this beauty in a closet....

Deployment Project #80- Supporting My Hero

Deployment Project #80
Wounded Warrior 5K Shirt

Last weekend, I had a chance to run in a 5k for the Wounded Warrior Project.

Family and Friends showed up to support my husband's battalion  and walked/ran in honor of our men currently serving overseas, as well as those who have been wounded in action.

What a wonderful cause to run for!

It was so good to be able to get together with the other family members of deployed soldiers.  I find comfort in being around other wives who know what a challenge it is to be away from a loved one for an entire year.

Here we are right after the race.

For my deployment project, I made t-shirts for my friend and me to wear in honor of my husband.
With every step I ran I thought about what a brave man I am married too, and how thankful I am that he has been safe while serving overseas.

Photobucket

To make these, I just bought some transfer paper at Target.
I designed an image on my computer, printed it out on the transfer paper and ironed it on a shirt.

Easy as pie!

If you haven't thanked a  soldier for his duty, please do so.

They are putting their lives on the line for YOU!

Saying "Thank You" goes a long way with a soldier!

What's On Your Phone?!?!?

I am so glad I have my camera phone.

Funny that it's a phone, but I never talk on it...

I text and take pictures and play Words With Friends on it the most. ha!

Going through my phone the other day, I came across some pictures of different activities....

and I thought I would share.

And you thought I was going to show you another deployment project, didn't you?!?

Photobucket

Miss B taking a break from bowling....she really didn't like waiting on her turn to come around....

Photobucket

Back In February, when the hubby was home from Iraq for his 2 week break I snapped this pic....

Photobucket

Hanging at the circus with my girls....gotta love Miss B's expression

Photobucket

My 8 yr old talked me into riding this ferris wheel type ride at the town festival recently. Knowing I hate heights, I did it for the love of my child.

And they stopped us up at the top. I think I took this pic as I was starting my panic attack, and as you can see, my daughter thought it was fun being up that high. YIKES!

Photobucket

Apparently, my daughter took the phone in the bathroom with her and snapped this while she was "going"....I laugh every time I see it!

Photobucket

Headed to school for Field Day. Wonder why kids find bunny ears so hysterical??

Photobucket

After the mud run, my buddies and I posed for a pic to show off how filthy we were. (I'm still finding mud in cracks I didn't know I had. ha!)

Photobucket

This is the view from my in-laws lake house. I took this at sunrise one morning.

Photobucket

Finally, this is the view from a restaurant in Charleston, SC....with views like this, who wouldn't want to live in this city?!?

So, what's on your phone???

Getting Muddy....REALLY Muddy!!!!

What a fun weekend we had last week...

I participated in this....

Photobucket

It's a 5.2 mile run with 34 obstacles....

Can we say challenging?!?!?!

Our team of 4 was ready!

And we started off clean.....but remember, it's called a Mud Run, so we didn't stay clean long.
Photobucket

We are READY! Bring it on!

Photobucket

Photobucket

We took water proof cameras with us, and here are some FUN shots we got!!!

Photobucket

We had to climb under and over all sorts of stuff for over 5 miles!

Photobucket

Photobucket

We waded through all sorts of muddy trenches and water...

Photobucket

Photobucket

...and we ALL busted our behinds at some point....

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

We walked through mud that was thigh high....got stuck...and had to be pulled out...

Afterwards, we had so much mud on us.....it took us a VERY long time to get it off of us!

But, we made it through, and lived to tell about it!
Photobucket

I don't think I was ever this dirty as a child!!!

Photobucket

Oh yeah, we were filthy!!!! But I can't wait to to it again in the fall!!!!

HAPPY GOOD FRIDAY TO YOU!!!!!

Deployment Project # 79 - Plant Stand Makeover

Deployment Project # 79
Plant Stand Makeover

This little plant stand was another piece of furniture we were fortunate enough to get from my husband's late grandmother.
Photobucket

Yeah, I know. It's JUST a plant stand

...but it came from a special place

...which makes it a little more sentimental.

I brought it home and sanded it down.

I spray painted the bottom part white, and stained the top with a mahogany stain I used on my stairs (read about that HERE)

And now I have a cute plant stand that looks brand new!!

Photobucket

I had this little empty space on my staircase...

Photobucket

So I placed the stand there with a pretty full plant.

However, I think one of my deployment projects should be trying to keep my plants alive. (Why is it I can keep 2 kids fed and healthy, but can't seem to keep my plants alive?!?)

Photobucket

So, let's look again at the

Photobucket

....and the
AFTER

Happy Thursday, friends!

Deployment Project # 78- A TV Appearance

Deployment Project # 78
A Trip To The TV Studio

Photobucket

A different type of project, but definitely a FUN one....

a chance to appear on our local morning tv show to share my blog and deployment projects..

Photobucket

I had the chance to share my blog, deployment projects and how I have been coping with my husband being away for 14 months...

Photobucket

It was fun to see all of the background that goes into making the show...

Photobucket

Everyone at the tv station was extremely hospitable and friendly.

Such a relaxing atmosphere, even though my nerves were on edge...

Photobucket

It was such a fun opportunity to share my hard work with our local community...

Photobucket

I was able to explain how I cope with my husband's 14 month long deployment by keeping up this blog and having a goal of 100 projects by the time he returns.

Hopefully I was able to encourage other spouses who are going through the heartache of deployment..

Afterwards, they let me sit in the "HOT" seat.

I felt like Will Ferrell in the movie "Anchorman"

Maybe I should change my last name to "Corningstone"
(only those who have seen that movie will get that one)

Photobucket

My sweet friend, Kym, went with me for support (and was my photographer).

I think we make a MUCH better team than Hoda and Kathy Lee.  :)

Photobucket

Loved meeting the show's 3 hosts Dave, Laura and Evan.

Super nice people.

Photobucket

We were instant friends...already cutting up together within minutes!

Love it!

Photobucket

F.U.N. is such an understatement!

Thanks, Lowcountry Live for allowing me the opportunity to share what is close to my heart, and allowing me to inspire others with my blog!!!!!
